April was a great month fishing around Pine Island, Sanibel, and southwest Florida, and May could be even better. This is the month to target the big boys as tarpon season kicks off in full swing and gets much of the attention.
Catching a Grand Slam (tarpon, snook, redfish, sea trout) is possible, not an easy task but possible if the cards on a given day stack in your favor.
Sharks also give a great fight, especially blacktip and spinners. May is one of the best months for inshore sharks of all shapes and sizes.
Snook season closed the first of May, with everyone targeting tarpon it’s a great time for fun with catch and release snook fishing.
Red fishing over the past month has been spotty, but most that we are catching are in the upper slot or oversize. Always a great fight!
With kids and family on the boat its hard to beat Spanish mackerel for action packed fun. They hit like a train and the kids love the long drag screaming runs.
Sea trout is another fun fish for the family, giving steady action, and also great on the table.
